COrnerstone DESIGN I - EDNS 151
ABOUT DESIGN I
Design I classes meet three times per week: twice in a project section of 25 students led by a professor who also serves as manager, and once per week in a Skills Lab.
Students work in a team of four or five to learn and practice the fundamental skills of technical problem solving through the use of a guided design methodology, as applied to a very broad, challenging, real-world problem (see examples of past problems here). EDNS151 is an active-learning, problem-based course, covering topics such as problem definition, decision making, effective group work, stakeholder engagement, prototyping, and presentation skills (all Learning Outcomes can be found here).

RESOURCES
Need a little help? See below for some commonly used resources in Design I, including information on different work shops and innovation spaces available on campus, knowledge about the entrepreneurial mindset, and help with Arduinos and makers spaces.
Work Spaces
Need some space to work on your project? Check out the Cornerstone Workshop in the new Labriola Innovation Hub!
Need some extra help? Please schedule time with your TA.
Using Arduinos
Want to learn the basics of Arduino? There is now a microcontroller module incorporated into Design 1 (EDNS 151)! This provides all students with the opportunity to learn how to use Arduinos and the input and output devices Arduinos are compatible with. The Cornerstone Design Workshop also provides students with Arduinos and sensors that they are able to use on their projects.
